Changing a QR code's destination after printing
Repoint a live code without reprinting anything.
This is the superpower of dynamic codes: the printed pattern never changes, but where it sends people can. Repointing a code takes seconds and applies to every copy in the wild — no reprinting.
How to repoint a code
- Go to QR Codes and open the code.
- On the Destination card, click Edit.
- Choose the new destination — a different Qbit page or a different External site URL.
- Click Save.
That's it. The next scan of any printed copy goes to the new destination.
Why this works
The code encodes a permanent short link, not the destination itself. Scans hit the short link, which looks up the current destination and redirects. Changing the destination just changes the lookup — the printed code is untouched.
When to use it
- Fix a mistake — a typo'd URL or a page that moved.
- Rotate campaigns — the poster from the spring promo points at the summer promo now.
- Seasonal switching — one code on the door, pointing at brunch on weekends and dinner menus at night (switch it whenever you like).
- Upgrade the experience — a code that pointed at your website can start opening a purpose-built Qbit page.
Good to know
- Repointing is instant and unlimited, on every plan.
- Scan history stays with the code, not the destination — analytics continue uninterrupted across repoints.
- Use the Test link on the detail page to verify the new destination without inflating your scan count.
